Rent tax credit explained

How it works

If you rent your home, you can get back 20% of the rent you pay, up to a limit. In 2026 the limit is €1,000 for one person and €2,000 for a couple. From 2027 it rises to €1,150 and €2,300.

An example

You pay €15,000 rent in 2027. 20% is €3,000, but the limit for one person is €1,150. So your credit is €1,150.

Good to know

A credit lowers your tax bill euro for euro, so you need to pay at least that much tax to get all of it. Claim it through Revenue's myAccount.
